Across the Bay Area, talented students from under-resourced communities face enormous challenges — economic instability, underperforming schools, and environments that can make hope feel out of reach.
Your gift to Bay Scholars gives talented students access to a top-tier, college-prep education — and a future filled with opportunity. With your support, we provide four-year scholarships that open doors to rigorous academics, caring mentors, and communities where students are known, challenged, and inspired to thrive.
Every scholarship transforms not just one student’s life, but the lives of their families and communities for generations to come.
$3,500 provides one scholarship for one year
$14,000 provides support for four years of high school
$25,000 provides seven students with a one-year scholarship
$50,000 provides a four-year scholarship for three students
$100,000 provides scholarship support for 28 students for one year

A simple, tax-efficient way to change a student’s life.
DAFs are one of the fastest growing forces in philanthropy today. Many Bay Scholars supporters choose to give through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) at Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, or other sponsoring organizations.
Recommending a grant from your DAF is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to support talented students from under-resourced Bay Area communities.

A legacy gift ensures that future generations of talented students have access to the life-changing opportunities that Bay Scholars provides.
The simplest way to make a legacy gift is through a bequest in your will or trust, but there are several ways to create a lasting impact, including:
• Bequests through a will or living trust
• Naming Bay Scholars as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life
insurance policy
• Donor-Advised Fund legacy designations
• Charitable trusts or other estate gifts

2025 Year End Planning: Tax benefits from Charitable Gifts
Your financial support of Bay Scholars may actually save you money in taxes, especially this year. Here are some time-sensitive giving opportunities that you may want to consider in your year-end plans that will support not only our Bay Scholars students and families, but also may save you money depending on your tax situation.
IRA Required Minimum Distributions are Back
After being waived for 2020, required minimum withdrawals (or RMDs) from your IRA are again in force for individuals age 72 and older. If you wish to support Bay Scholars with this RMD income, you can donate it as a qualified charitable distribution. This way, your IRA will not generate taxable income for the current tax year.
Questions? Please contact Kristin Kurth at kristin@bayscholars.org.
Timing Your Gifts
If you mail a check, it must be dated and postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before December 31, 2025, to qualify for a tax deduction this year. If you use an on-line gift, it is considered to be made on the date of the payment.
